Purpose | (Clinical Focus: This value set includes concepts used to represent race categories as defined by the U.S. federal government under the Office of Management and Budget’s (OMB) 1997 standards for race and ethnicity data collection. The standard defines 5 ethnicity categories:
American Indian' or 'Alaska Native', 'Asian', 'Black or African American', 'Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander', and 'White'
These definitions are outlined in the OMB Statistical Policy Directive No. 15: Standards for Maintaining, Collecting, and Presenting Federal Data on Race and Ethnicity (62 FR 58782, October 30, 1997).
