Purpose(Clinical Focus: This value set contains codes that represent medications with analgesic effects which may be of potential therapeutic benefit in treating chronic pain. It does not include opiate and opioid class medications.),(Data Element Scope: This value set contains RxNorm codes defining analgesic medications which are not of opiate or opioid classes used to treat chronic pain.),(Inclusion Criteria: Prescribable RxNorm codes derived from the following: Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical (ATC) codes as documented by WHO for pain. N02B (other analgesics and antipyretics), M01 (antiinflammatory and antirheumatic products - M01A and M01C), M02A (topical products for joint and muscular pain), M03 (muscle relaxants), N02C angimigraine preparations, a subset of N03 antiepileptics, and N01BB (amides). Note A03D and A03EA do not have have RxNorm codes. Dronabinol, the synthetic for cannabinoids. Also included are all prescribable meds as defined by MEDRT may_treat pain.),(Exclusion Criteria: Medications which are volatile or inhaled anesthetic agents; full or partial agonists of the mu-opioid receptor; opioids.)
